Are 6-year-olds really worried about the cost of living or are they just reflecting what those around them are concerned about?

Although it’s difficult to be sure, what was evident throughout the Commissioner’s Listening Tour was that a lot of children, some as young as 6 years old, talked about wanting cheaper food and cheaper electricity.

We also heard from many children that they think public transport should be free for students and that the cost of education was too high. Some children were able to articulate their wish for this was to take the pressure of parents, while others talked about wanting the best for anyone who might be struggling.

Whatever the reason, we heard a lot during our conversations that children and young people in South Australia do think about these things, they are taking in what’s happening around them, and they might just be a little worried.
