On Saturday 5 April at the Youth Impact Summit, the printed version of Hub Magazine was released. Read how it came into being via the article by one the Hub Interns involved.
Designed and written by the CCYP Hub intern team, Hub is an online magazine created for South Australians aged 15-22. Through support from the Commissioner for Children and Young People, we have been able to turn this online space into a printed review, highlighting young South Australians’ skills and opinions. Designing a magazine is a long process and required dedication from Hub intern and designer Ebani, in collaboration with the team of Hub interns.
The first step in the design process was selecting a range of articles, to best showcase the diversity of the Hub team. Ebani then created an outline for the format, order of pages and page contents to ensure flow and readability. To keep the reader engaged she worked hard on creating a unique and engaging page layout for every page, including relevant images and graphics. She worked to create a cohesive aesthetic throughout the physical magazine, incorporating the fonts, style and three core colours of green, yellow and purple. During Ebani’s design process, she discussed the magazine with the other Hub interns to receive feedback and come up with new ideas. The magazine aimed to showcase and engage the work that Hub has achieved throughout 2024. To keep this engagement, Ebani designed some brain games related to the content from the articles to break up the text and make the magazine more accessible!
Our inaugural print magazine will take you on a walk down memory lane as we share some of our favourite pieces of 2024. The magazine includes sports recaps, updates on our ever-changing political scene, gaming highlights, and our interns’ opinion pieces! In the future, the Hub team is hoping to receive content from casual contributors and continue to facilitate conservations that are meaningful to South Australian young people.
