cover of position brief

Much of our society and schooling system focuses on preparing children and young people for their futures. From a young age, children are asked ‘what do you want to be when you grow up?’ As they get older this question changes to ‘what are you going to do when you finish school?’ or ‘what are you studying to become?’

To assess whether South Australian children and young people felt able to answer these questions and more about job readiness, the Commissioner surveyed over 740 young people aged 12 to 18 years who were asked what they think needs to be done to ensure they are future work ready.

From their answers, the Commissioner produced Off to Work We Go.
