Children’s Voice Project
What is it?
The Children’s Voice Project aims to see the beginning of a shift in how timely, authentic grassroots engagement with children and young people can impact planning for communities.
The Commissioner for Children and Young People will work with Together SA* to establish a platform of ongoing engagement with children living in nine suburbs
The Children’s Voice forum will aim to:
- ensure that conversations between the Commissioner and children and young people, on important community issues, are ongoing
- provide a unique and sustainable leadership program for children and young people, building their capacity to articulate their thoughts and opinions, and contribute to decisions that impact them
- be issue-based, with topics raised by the Commissioner or the community.
It is envisaged that this platform of engagement will be authentic, influential and dynamic. The Commissioner will meet face to face with the children four times in the twelve month period, on topics to be negotiated with ‘Together in the South’ partners.
*Together SA is an independent, non-profit organisation that facilitates collaboration between the not for profit sector, all tiers of government and communities to tackle complex social problems. Together SA leads an initiative in the south of Adelaide called ‘Together in the South’ which has the aim of ensuring that every child aged 0-8 years is Safe, Healthy, Active, Ready to learn and Engaging with others (SHARE).
